Real-World Based
TerraCare Software incorporates research-based simulation models to "ground" the educational experience in reality. Feedback is immediately and constantly available in both printed and on-screen formats. Thus, learning outcomes are realistic and personally relevant to the student, not open-ended or derailed by a "loose" educational experience gone awry.
Holistic
Systems thinking is an important approach to understanding many kinds of problems and is incorporated extensively into TerraCare products. Because of the complex interdependencies in nature and society, there are ramifications and trade-offs for any action (or inaction). The goal of systems thinking, and of TerraCare education products, is to identify and understand these critical interdependencies.
Locally-Relevant
While TerraCare tools are based on simulation models incorporating the most recent research and scientific expertise, they can be adapted and customized for the needs of multiple audiences in different regions of the world. Local authors and experts are recruited for each product.
Multidisciplinary
Understanding a complex system is best practiced from a variety of perspectives. Consequently, TerraCare incorporates multiple points of view into the simulation model and educational experience. Through role-playing by team members and virtual characters on-screen, multidisciplinary views of the system enrich the final outcomes.

Cross-Cultural
Collectively, TerraCare has collaborated together and with other international partners in more than 30 countries around the world. TerraCare products include pedagogically-rich teaching methodologies that continue to evolve and become enriched from this continuing cross-cultural exchange of ideas and design strategies.
Flexible
TerraCare designs the entire educational experience and not just the educational tool. All available resources such as setting, time available, instructor/trainer, equipment, materials, and culture are factored into the design process. Nonetheless, TerraCare also factors in and allow for adaptation for multiple uses of its tools over a variety of settings and available time periods. TerraCare can design educational tools to run on a variety of computer platforms, including the internet. These tools can be widely distributed and updated over the internet or through inexpensive disk media in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Tried and True
Field tests are a vital and important part of every development project. TerraCare make great effort to field test prototype its tools in the early phases of development, where they are most likely to be deployed, so that important feedback is incorporated during the continuing design process.
Engaging
TerraCare simulation tools attracts and hold the attention of end users who otherwise experience difficulty learning from more traditional tools and methods. Most importantly, TerraCare tools transform end users from passive recipients to active participants in their own learning, personal growth, and civic advocacy.
